Queens Birthday weekend 31st May/1st June 2014 saw the Tracker II Fishing Team once again take out the top honours in the Annual Warkworth Gamefish Club 10kg competition. The same team as last year - Tony Gale, Trevor Williams, Ray Phillips and Sue Trent - but this year it was Trevor's turn to land the Big One, with the only Kingfish weighed in at 16.908kg taking out the Top Prize!  Entries were down a bit on last year with the weather forecast uninspiring which restricted fishing areas.

The Tracker II team elected not to get "beaten up" and took a softer option of fishing between Catherine Bay and The Needles on the Northern Area of Great Barrier Island.  The weather both days was dominated by a Southeasterly system and that fairly well dictated where we fished.  Plenty of Snapper caught but the average size was down.  Sue got relegated to 3rd in the Ladies Snapper this year after last year's win.

Ray was very pleased to win the "Early Bird" prize of a Hunting and Fishing 20kg Chilly Bin containing clothing, tackle and $200 in gold coins - and also gave us our first chance to sample STOLEN GOLD RUM, courtesy of Matakana Liquor (very nice!!).  Sue won the Raffle Prize of a meatpack sponsored by Matakana Butchery. This Club attracts great sponsors - Penn (thus the name!) and local distributors Pure Fishing.

Hunting and Fishing Warkworth came through once again with lovely chilly bins of assorted sizes. Gamegear Warkworth put on clothing prizes and Dean of KnifetechNZ donated some very effective filleting knives.  A Hard Luck Prize of a rechargeable pump was donated by Mahurangi Marine, won by the team on Elusive - who were appreciate of a little compensation for losing their grapnel at the Mokes.

Fish was served up at the Dinner, cooked in Frogdog Tempura Batter courtesy of Andrew Fogden, who also generously handed packets out to take home.

The enthusiastic organising Committee on the Warkworth Gamefish Committee did a superb job as usual, led by Dave.  Lovely to to see them encouraging children at the Club - they have some keen and competitive young anglers coming through namely young Oliver Adams the winner for the second year running.  Well done and thanks to all for a great contest at a great venue - Sandspit.
